Default Trail Guide Install Help!

I just installed the trail guide, but I want to make sure I did it right! Do you plug in to the back of the cigarette lighter on the right side of the dash (the one marked "Power Outlet") or to the one on the left side of the dash? The instructional pictures seem to show the one on the right side of the dash, but then it mentions to check for switched power which confused me.

If you want switched power, you'll want the one on the left I believe. I'll go out and check right now and if I'm wrong I'll edit this in a sec.

Yep..just verified...switched is on left, constant on right.

Yes, you're right. We ended up testing it too and found out that the left one is the switched power, so we ended up plugging it in on that side. I assume that since it said to "check for switched power", that it means that it should have switched power, so that is what we did. Just drove around the block and it works great!

Correct, driver side is switched power, passenger is constant. I've wired all my GPS and video stuff to the driver/switched side so everything turns on/off with the key on/off.

I love my trail guide. Haven't even begun to tap into all it can do but it works flawlessly.

I actually ran mine to constant. I had the trailguide in my TJ and I got tired of it asking me if I wanted to turn it off when I turned the Jeep off. Sometimes I'm stopping briefly to tak e apicture or get gas. I don't really want it to power off then.

That's an easy fix... you simply hit ok or change it in the configuration/settings to stay on until you physically power it off.

I don't have any pics right now, but of course it looks like the pics above, except that I have the brushed silver overlay on my dash. The install was pretty straightforward, and it came out really nice. I only got to drive around the block with it, but I think it will be a nice addition. I plan to get the topographic maps for it, to help keep me from getting lost on Forest Service roads. I haven't actually been lost yet, but there have been several times when I wasn't sure if I was really on the road I thought I was on!
