Default Trailer harness installation

Installing a Mopar 4-plug trailer wiring harness in the next few days. Just plugs into the left tail light wiring. The instructions say to disconnect the battery before starting.

Do I really need to disconnect a battery cable just to unplug and plug in my tail light? If so, could I pull a fuse instead?

Knowing that I was just going to be handling connectors with nothing bare that could possibly short to ground, I didn't. But I'm not saying it's ok not to.

I think I will look for a fuse to pull just to be safe.

Hell, I didn't even read the directions and it never crossed my mind to disconnect anything other than the wire harness plug.

Same as Robar... I just plugged it in and routed to under the bumper. Worked fine.

x5, just installed a wiring harness an hour ago and didn't disconnect the battery or fuse. Just pulled the plug from the light and put the T connector in.
