Question Two Diff. Versions of MYGIG ?!??!

I was on eBay, and came across two auctions for MYGIG from the same seller "mr.cd1".

One auctions Buy It Now is about $1500 and says it is compatible with just the Sebring and Avenger

The other auction's Buy It Now is about $1800 and says it is compatible with both the Sebring and Avenger, along with being compatible with the Nitro and Wranglers.

When I asked him the question, he responded that there are two different speeds that the MYGIG's run at or something to that effect.

Can anyone confirm if this is so, and if the cheaper auctioned one will be compatible, but he's just trying to capitalize on the demand for Wranglers and Nitros?

Thank you!

Personally I think he's BS'ing. I think the cheaper one will work in a Wrangler, but please don't take my word for it. I'm not 100% sure.

call your dealer and get the exact model # for the JK

and then get the model # for a seabring or whatever...

see if they match.

the only diff I can think of is the hands free thingy...

the "RER" is the one that DC sells with the Jeep. the "REC" comes in other DC vehicles and is an older version.

whether or not the "REC" will work in a Jeep, despite it being a different version, i don't know.

Default 4 Versions of the MyGig

There are actually 4 different Hardware revisions of the MyGig. Two of them are designed to work with the CANB bus and two are designed to work with the CANC bus.

The 2006 Sebring and 2007 Avenger run on the CANB bus which runs slower and has somewhat different protocols than the newer CANC bus.

The 2007 Sebring, Nitro and Wrangler all run on the CANC bus. I haven't attempted it, but it is possible that the CANB version of the MyGig may work in the wrangler, but $1500 is alot to spend if you aren't sure.

The REC is not a MyGig, it has no HD, and is made by Alpine not Harmon Kardon.

Just my $.02

Very interesting...

They are both RER...and just recently, the seller put this into the auction...

"AGAIN, this RER can ONLY be used in the above listed vehicles. It uses a different communication bus, and (at this time) is NOT adaptable to other vehicles! (please do not send me emails asking about other vehicles)"

If anyone has any ideas while I try to get numbers from the parts dept., keep 'em coming.

Calling up two different Jeep dealers in the area, they did not have part numbers or prices for MYGIG for both the Wrangler and Sebring...

Does anyone else have this info? Thanks!

the dealer i go to didn't have a part number for it either. they said it wasn't available as an aftermarket part yet and didn't have any idea if/when it would be available.

No. CAN-C is never the interior network on any Chrysler vehicle. It is on a couple Mercedes though,

Its possible to combine both formats on the same unit, but its also possible they made them separate. I'm not sure if there are actually two. I can guarantee the circuit boards are identical, just configured differently.

IF are 2 hardware versions of the RER, one for CAN-B as stated, the other is for CAN-IHS. Both of which are interior busses, neither are the same as CAN-C.

IF there is a CAN-B version of the RER it will absolutely not work in an IHS vehicle and vs.

Do as someone else suggested and call the dealer for p/ns.
