I haven't had any problems out of my Uconnect, yet.. Except that when on a call, the other person says it sounds like I have my windows rolled down or that it's muffled.. It may sound dumb, but I really don't understand what exactly Uconnect does that Bluetooth doesn't?

If I can find the right one, with the features I am looking for, I will definitely be going with the aftermarket option.

Crutchfield.com has a great search function, with a number of parameters, to narrow and give you ideas on potential alternatives.

If you replace the head unit, in addition you will need an interface to retain your steering wheel controls and a new Sirius module (if you want to retain satellite). The site will take you through all of the options. You can also find all the same equipment on Amazon. I put in a touchscreen Pioneer head unit with Bluetooth, the interface, a back-up camera, and a new satellite receiver for under $400. It is lower end model, non nav model, but has Pandora/iPhone integration and retains steering wheel controls. Bluetooth works great. Had it in for over a year, no problems. Back-up cam comes in handy with larger tire mounted on back. Pretty easy to install (back up camera takes some work), but if you don't have time you should be able to buy all the parts and find a local stereo place that can install it on the cheap.
That's a relief to know that I won't be losing my steering wheel controls if I decide to go that route,as long as I have the correct part. I have an iPhone so it's important to me I obviously get a head unit that is compatible with it. I had a friend that bought a new unit once and it wouldn't pair with his iPhone -_- I have heard good things and also bad things about pioneer, so I am guessing it's really all in what a person prefers?

That is a worry of mine as well.. Don't want the thing to go missing if I've got everything wide open. I wonder if they have any that's iPhone friendly?

I appreciate that, I will be looking into them for sure tomorrow. Seems like a lot of people on this forum buy from them. I have seen many people reference them so that makes me feel good about it.

When you look for a head unit you'll want make sure it supports Apple CarPlay for your iPhone.

Crutchfield has great service. That said, you most likely can get it on Amazon cheaper. Note...Supposedly purchasing via Amazon (or other non authorized resellers) has impact on the warranty directly with Pioneer.

The CarPlay units are nice, but there are also units that are far less expensive and will still give you ability to connect to you iPhone. Example my non-CarPlay unit has a button that activates SIRI, bluetooths to phone and I can use SIRI (or head unit to dial), can play music/Pandora (hard wire link) and use steering wheel controls, and I can hear iPhone map directions via stereo (note there is no picture on the screen).

CarPlay takes that up a level by integrating the Maps with picture on screen, has a text message feature as well, and more touch screen usability. That said, all depends on what you need/want to pay for.
