Using factory high level inputs to amp....
Need a little help guys. I have the factory infinity stereo. Added a sub with a LOC on the rear sub channels, works great, sounds great! So, i wanted the rest of the speakers loud, so i got a RF PBR300x4 to power my components up front and coaxles in the soundbar. the amp has high level inputs, so i figured i'd just tap into the front and rear speakers and i'd be good to go. Well, i didn't even get to the rears, i got it all in, spliced into the front speakers and it all works, just sounds terrible! Like, a low quality am radio! It's loud to a point, then starts distorting, not from overpowering, but from a distorted signal. I think it's that signal. I read on here that the front speakers are crossed over at the amp, so my thinking is that it's getting a mid range signal, amplifying it and then the components are trying to make that sound good, and it's not working. Am i right here? I know its a crossed over signal, but should it really be that bad? I know i can get a kicker sound processor for $150, or the PAC unit for $90 and probably fix the problem, but is there any other way you guys can think of to improve the signal without spending another $90? I tried using the signal right behind the head unit, worked but no volume control. I don't like the PAC unit because you lose the bass/trebble settings and i use those as alot when going to different music(ipod/radio/etc).... Any ideas? I"m not an expert, but i have been messing with this stuff for years. Do you think i could maybe combine both tweeter and midrange front speakers and run that into the amp? Kinda like summing it on my own? for now i think i'm just gonna un hook the amp and run off the factory til i can figure it out, the sound is seriously terrible!
actually i just disconnected it til i can afford to buy the right adapter or sound processor. Just upgrading the speakers made it louder, so until i get the extra $$, i'll just stick with the factory amp. I did try running just the tweets off the factory amp, and it sounded lots better, so i was right, my problem was where i stole the signal. IT was already a crossed over sound, and it was trying to make a midrange signal into a high signal at the tweeter, causing it to sound very muffled. Oh well, worth a shot!
With the infinity "premium" sound system you should (to do it properly, and I might be misunderstood by what u mean but you are trying to create RCA's with the high level output converter) get the PAC harness if you want an aftermarket radio and run 9 wire to your aftermarket amp or you can install all new speakers ( which is the best bet) and just skip the whole infinity bypass and run wires straight to the amp? Best bet is aftermarket head unit
