I used the power from the cig lighter to relay power from the battery. Here is a write up bout a similar project.

I ran a power wire from the battery, along the top of the firewall, to a rubber grommet on the driver's side. I put the wire through there and down to the driver's side kick panel. I was able to route my CB to that and used the Jeep grounding connector that are also on the kick panel. Very tidy!
If you don't mind....I would like to see a pic as well. I went to Radio Shack and bought an extension for my Radar Detector of which I mounted above my mirror. I took off the inside trim in order to run the cable down to the power adapter socket. Even though I can't see the cable (except at the power socket), it would sure be nice to have that socket available for other purposes if they ever come up.
Only problem with the battery is that will be a constant so if you leave whatever your powering on, it will slowly drain the battery. The top center piece of the dash just pops right off (the piece where factory nav is mounted). Pull up from the back and it comes right off. There is a wiring harness in place for the factory nav whether you have it or not. Its an accesssory wire so it will only be on when your key is in the ignition. Just tap off of that. Much easier to get to than the back of the cig lighter. O and the pink wire is the power and the black is the ground. Hope that helps.
Krogs went the extra mile in his write-up... but here is the write up I did. I just tapped off the Switched power off of the Cig lighter and the constant hot off of the accessory plug.

P.S. It is also linked in his write-up. If you have the time I would suggest doing it his way.
