Default Whine after amp install

Hi all,
I need some help after install new amp and speakers.
I install an amp and speakers and now I have a whine in the speakers.
The whine is present as soon as I turn the key to the accessory position.
Whine is present no matter if motor is running or not.
The amp came with high level inputs.
THe amp is wired using the high level inputs from the radio.
I have the standard stock stereo system with the standard 430 hu - no nav- has u connect
I have the ground wire run from the factory ground point under the dash, passenger side
The amp is mounted under the back seat.
When I disconnect the high level inputs at the amp, the whine goes away. So assuming it's coming from the head unit
Any help is much appreciated
Thanks!

Try turning down the input level on the amp. I'm not a fan of high level inputs. They usually have distortion problems of some kind.

It is usually recommended that you ground your amp to the chassis within a foot of the amp. I have no idea what amp you have but your ground wire should be the same gauge as your power wire...I'm assuming 8 gauge if it's under 200w total or 4 gauge if it's higher power than that.

You could try an external high to rca input adapter. They are pretty cheap.

I have 4 ga wire for power and ground
The amp is rated at rms 4x125 @4 ohm
The ground wire is a lot longer than 12"
I bet it's at least 48" as it's connected just under the dash, passenger side and amp is mounted under rear seat.
I will try grounding to the seat belt buckle or one of the back seat mounting screws next and make sure to shorten the ground wire.
I am finding mixed suggestions for ground wire length online. Some say no more than 12, some say no more than 18", have even seen one say no more than 24". I am going to try a 12" ground wire like you suggest tomorrow and see how it goes.

Thanks!

I've had best luck keeping it as short as possible or, running it all the way back to the battery. Many amp manufacturers suggest NOT using the seatbelt anchor as a ground but under the seat there is a grounding point toward the center console. You will see several wires grounded there.

The other possibility is your speaker wire. I like to use twisted pair speaker wire and twisted pair RCAs. They don't have to be hugely expensive, in fact you can find it on Amazon or I typically use a brand called Knu Konceptz. Very high quality wire for the price.

Well, I tried grounding to the rear seat bracket bolts, the ones that screw into the floor and it actually made the whine worse

Is there any grounding points under the rear seat?
I can check again but so far not seeing it

I will try running the ground wire directly to the battery next.
