Default Wiring

I have some rear LED taillights that I am about to install but when I look online I get lost in the equations for using LEDs. I am looking for a "wiring for dummies" type tutorial. The front has the stock lights so from my understanding I will need resistors so the computer thinks the original lights are still on. With resistors, they hook up from the positive to the negitive wires?

Also, with the LED taillights, I loose the backup lights. I'm thinking about using some flush mounted Rigid Dually LED's in the rear. Same with above, I get lost in the jabber and diagrams listed all over the web. What I'm trying to accomplish this is to have a three way stitch that will allow one position to make the lights come on like factory (when placed in reverse), one position that will turn them on (in reverse or not), and one position that will turn them off (not function in reverse). Can anyone break this down on how to accomplish?

Lastly, I am relocating the license plate holder. I have some LED license plate lights. Can I take the original wiring and splice it in two leading to the LEDs? I know this may be wiring 101 but this is one area that turns into chineese arithmetic equations. Even a write up or tutorial that breaks it down barney style will help.

Not 100% sure but I'm pretty sure your resistor should be installed inline on your positive wire only

Switched reverse lights... I want to do the same. Was thinking about running an aux switch to some sort of relay setup. That way the transmission reverse switch could turn them on or I could control them by switch.

"Inline" with the positive wire makes the Jeep think there is less electrical load. What's needed is to make the LED look like more load to the Jeep's sensor. That happens when the resister is connected between the + and - wires.

Maybe someone has done this and will post the value for the resistor. An 1157 bulb has 1 ohm and 2.2 ohm filaments. Resistors that low will run hot. The trick is to use the highest ohm value that looks like an 1157 bulb to the Jeep. If I were going to do this by trial-and-error I'd try 40, 20, 10, and 5 ohm resistors.
