Wiring Harness - Trailer Towing
I know nothing about wiring harnesses for trailer towing. Where do I go to find out whether I have a 7-way round wiring harness or a 4-way flat harness? Mopar parts told me I need either of these two and I need to check to see which one I have.

Specifically where on the jeep would this connector be?

It is a 4 pin between my light and recevier not sure what that circle is for lol
Well ok, here's the deal. My jeep was purchased without a tow package or wiring harness. I do however have an aftermarket bumper with a hitch welded in. Now I would like to actually tow something with it but I have no way to plug in the wiring for the brake lights and such. I've been researching other posts and it sounds like an easy way to do this is just buy a mopar factory wiring harness. Is this true or is there something else I need to do such as tap into my wiring first?
Like I said I'm clueless to how the wiring is setup.

If your trailer is compatible with the Jeep four pin wiring harness, that's the way you want to go. Most trailers are, but not all. Trailers that require seven pin (or other configurations) usually have electric brakes, auxiliary power (such as an interior dome light in the trailer), etc. If you just have standard running, turn and brake lights, then you probably have a four pin connector on the trailer.
BTW: If you want to hook up a seven pin with full functionality, then you will have to get creative and do some wiring of your own. For simplicity's sake, you want the four pin to work.

Do a Google search for ontheball and look at the T connectors. The part number you want is 118416
This T connecter goes behind the drivers side tail light. It takes about 30 minutes to install and gives a 4 pin hookup. $22

Sorry I'm such a novice and for asking what are probably rediculous questions.
I should probably just bring the jeep over to UHaul and ask them what I need. Or over to Mopar. Thanks for all your help!Trending Topics
The trailer I plan on towing would be one of U Haul's smallest trailers. I need to tow a washer and dryer for about 350 miles. I'm not sure what connector they have. My jeep currently doesn't have a wiring harness (I believe). I'm actually not sure what the wiring harness is (whether I need to splice the brake light wires to hook it up or does it just plug in and provide the connector for the trailer). It didn't come with one and came originally with a rear tow hook instead of a hitch. It is only since installing a rear aftermarket bumper that I now have a hitch.
Is this the same thing or similar as the factory wiring harness?

I just put on a used hitch and bought the mopar wiring harness. A couple dollars more but no need for ground wires. Just simple plug and play 10minutes to install hitch and harness.
A good friend of mine is a mechanic for U-Haul. He's where I learned what little I know about trailers. LOL. Don't blame him if anything I write is in error. But, if I were you I'd just install the Mopar wiring harness and show up at U-Haul. If it isn't a direct fit (it likely will be), they will have an adapter to make it work.

I'm guessing it plugs in somewhere under the carpet in the back behind the tail light or underneath somewhere?
Maybe they can show me at the mopar dealer. Thanks again for all the insight on this.
