x to rubicon conversion ?
has anybody ever done this? i know i would need the rubicon axles, electric sway bar disconnect, the oem wiring harness, and the oem switch pod (for the stock look). ive looked into the parts and it says "dealer activation required" for installaion of the rubicon harness and the rubicon switch panel. any information or tips?
Lots of folks prefer to start with an X or Sport. The Rubicon electronics and switch panels are not needed to make your X work like a Rubi.
Rubi springs and shocks come up for sale here all the time, or can be purchased new from the parts department. Or, you can swap the X springs and shocks out for a lift kit.
Manual disconnects for the sway bar are available. The Rubi electric disco is nice but not essential.
You can add a locker to both X axles. Air activated lockers get great reviews and don't depend on the Jeep's computer. If you plan on big tires, changing the front to Dana 44 could be a good plan instead of putting a locker in the Dana 30. The 30 can be reinforced and equipped with stronger axle shafts however.
If your X has 3.21 axles, you probably want to regear when the lockers go in. If you have 3.73 you can probably get along fine unless you want big tires.
Changing the transfer case to a Rubi can be expensive, but you can do great with the X case. Only difference is the lower gear ratio of the Rubi case.
Enjoy your Jeep!
