Default 4Lo Question

When your in 4Lo and going slow in mud are you suppose to be in 1st or second gear? I hear people use 1, 2, and 3 gear in 4Lo but your not going that fast?

this is a stick question cannot really answer but I can add one thing don't shift if you don't want mud in your clutch or learn to shift W/O clutch. So chose your speed wisely

wheel speed and momentum are your friends in mud. you want the highest gear that doesn't bog the motor. you are going to have to practice many many times in all different kinds of mud before you know the answer. i know it sucks but some body has to do it

I guess I'd say whatever works, sorry I know that sounds like a cop-out. You'll get a feel for what your tires can do by getting stuck (sorry, that's the only way) and trying it again a little differently.

I use 4lo in mud that is slick and that I can't get traction in 4hi because the wheels just spin. Sometimes I'll just let it come to a rest in the mudhole and then slowly creep out with 4lo.

It all depends on the mud depth/texture and your tires. You've gotta try approaching it in different ways to learn your vehicle. Everybody's different in their driving technique.

Some people like to hit things fast in 4wd, I usually like going slow and seeing if I can do it in 2wd first. Just for fun.

I've run a lot in 2nd gear in Lo, just cause 1st can be agonizingly slow sometimes. You going out this weekend?

For the mud around where I live, you have to hit it hard and have alot of wheel spin. That is the only way. If you crawl into a mud and try to crawl out your screwed. Saying that I would pick a gear that would give you enough power to spin your tires, but high enough to maintain alot of wheel spin. Also I hate mud, so I go around. I can crawl then.
