Default 4x4 shifter issues

Why is the shifter such a bitch!!!!?!?!? can someone tell me how to properly do it? i was in park and the shifter was in 4hi. i moved it and it didnt catch gear. then went to 4low and back to 2x2. nothing. after what felt like 15 minutes... finally got it back to 4hi then 4low. the shifter wouldnt even budge at one point. what gives?

i had it in park. then nuetral. nothing. then it popped in after a while of messing with it.

i am normally rolling when i shift, I know you said neutral but it was not clear if you were rolling even slowly when you do this.

Hope it helps.

Sounds to me like the plastic retaining clip to the transfer case linkage failed. Very common, believe it or not

If there is a problem going between 2H and 4H I would for a mechanical fault (like the retaining clip previously mentioned).

Going between 4h and 4l I would start with the official procedure (rolling forward at about 3MPH, transmission in neutral, etc) or at least roll forward a few feet between attempts. That shift is a crap shoot when you are stopped.
