New to all this offroading stuff, have a 05 TJ didn't get into much rough stuff with it, loved it though. Any way picking up 08 Rubi Thurs. and hope to do some wheeling with it. How do most people air up again? Do they carry air pig's with them, compressers? Hand pumps? Thanks Gi

 

I believe that most people use a 12v Air compressor...

A good one to buy is at Harbor Freight for about $70.

 

I've been drawn to the warn powerplant hd....but a fellow JK'er on this forum told me that it sucks and takes way to long to air up a 35 inch tire. So now i'm thinking a cheaper winch (superwinch) and a powertank or "thesource" Co2 tank.

I borrowed a buddy's power tank once and was blown away at how damn convenient it was. Except you have to get it refilled every so often...

Right now I just drive carefully from the trail to the nearest gas station with a compressor and hope it works well enough to get the job done without costing 1.75 per tire.

 

i'm lookin into the MASTER FLOW TSUNAMI 12V 120 PSI PORTABLE AIR COMPRESSOR on ebay. any body have any comments on it?

 

All the cig lighter wally world-ish ones are slow, but better than driving on the road with 4 flats.



The secret to the CO2 tank problem is to get TWO tanks, and one regulator....and when one runs out, use the other....and get the MT one filled later, rinse, repeat.

I didn't go that route, as I'm in the boonies too long for me to rely on brought in PSI.

I went with an ExtremeAir and a 4 gallon tank...stores 150 psi, can reset blow beads, run short duration air tools, and airs up the first tire in about 45 seconds....if the tank's charged. The one's after that are closer to 1.5 minutes a tire for 33's.

 

I use a Viair 12v pump takes about 10 min. to air back up.

 

i made mine, airs up very fast. i would say less than a minute per tire 35x12.5x15. i seen one on ebay the other day for $159.00 i might go with the 2 tank idea. but i do keep my MASTER FLOW TSUNAMI 12V 120 PSI PORTABLE AIR COMPRESSOR in the jeep just in case my tank happens to run out. and as far as the MASTER FLOW TSUNAMI 12V 120 PSI PORTABLE AIR COMPRESSOR goes, it is very very slow and it gets very hot. if it gets too hot it will shut off. but for a cheap back up it's not bad at all.

 

For about six years, I used a Quick Air II compressor. Hooks directly to the battery with two alligator clips. Takes about 12 minutes to inflate 4 tires,
(33X12.5) from 12psi to 24psi. After using a friend's Power Tank and went out and bought one the next day. Takes about one minute per tire.
That being said, you have to recharge the tank after inflating about 40 tires.
Not always convenient if you are in the boonies and can be expensive. In the same year, but in different locations, I have paid from $12 to $19 to refill the 10pound tank. Actually, the tank itself weighs 17 pounds, with a fresh load of
CO2 it weighs 27 pounds. On the negative side of the Quick Air II, after inflating four tires, the unit starts to get hot and slows down.

 

I have had a Craftsman 12V air compressor for 2 years now. This thing is great, especially for $50. It holds a charge like no other. The other nice thing is it fits perfectly in the small trunk space in the back.

 

I have used Power tanks for over 7 years now, and a CO2 tank cylinders comes very handy when you have to re-seat the beads or rung some air tools. I have a ARB compressor as a back on my WJ and I have not install one in my JK yet...been too busy wheeling
