You guys all suck.
I went out 2 weeks ago to Lowe's and found D-rings in a bin there and bought them.
They aren't rated to anything (I don't think) and after reading all this I think they may break off and kill someone the first time I try and use them.

DARN YOU ALL TO HECK!

There is a world of difference in getting hardware from a 4X4 shop and an Industrial place. The Industrial Place rates it's stuff for dead lift applications, and 4X4 rating is for pulling applications. So, you go get a snatch block,Clevis, (D-Ring) etc from a 4X4 shop, it's more expensive and has this amazing 10K rating, and it's the same gear from a wire and cable place for half the price and only rated at 4K, but that 4K is a dead lift 4K.

The other thing about winches is the rating they use is based on the number of rows left on the drum. It's not a 8K winch unless it's got so much wire on the drum. All manufacturers cover that. You have to dig deep on their websites or in the owners manual to find that out. So, buying recovery gear can be a bit daunting.

Good info being passed on the forum. And experience is the teacher.

I went out and bought only a pair of Warn brand 3/4" d-rings..

Im assuming they'll do the trick, plus they have WARN written on them in red, im sure that was worth the extra $5 they cost.

Couldn't agree more. I found a local rigging supply that hooked me up with 30' of 3/8" grade8 shotpeaned chain w/ hooks, 2 5/8", 2 3/4" screw pin shackles and a 3"X20' sling strap for $100. All of it is load rated well above the conditions I'll be using it in and it cost me half what the local off-road shops wanted.

They also have all the rest of it, snatch blocks, straps, chains, shackles, come-a-longs, winch cable, you name it. And good prices too.
