My 2010 4 door rubicon pings when I use the recommended octane fuel. When I switch to high test it goes away. Is this a engine problem?

Stock air filter? Is it clean or dirty? How's the air flow sensor?

And its not necessarily an engine problem, probably a electronic error thats getting your air/fuel mix wrong and causing the pinging

Clean the MAF. If it is reading low due to grime it will go lean.

There us no MAF on a 3.8, its a speed density type. Most likely either carbon buildup and/or oil consumption. You could also check your pcv valve. Also make sure you keep up with coolant maintenance and spark plugs too!

There's a good chance it is carbon buildup. Go to the local dealer and grab a $10 can of Chrysler combustion chamber cleaner. This stuff works great just follow the directions. I always let engine sit much longer than they recommend though before restarting
