....Plus the fact that the brick column you were pulling could have weighed more than you think. And it's a lot different pulling something like that, than pulling a rolling load.....even a stuck JK can roll probably a bit better than a brick column (depending how large it is of course). Like what was said, you pull something that doesn't want to move at all, and that winch will ask for all kinds of more power.

Yup, you're probably right. I weighed the second column, minus the concrete foundation, and it weighed about 300 lbs. It consisted of just the mortar core; no bricks. The first column; the one I pulled with the jeep, consisted of the mortar core and concrete foundation in the ground. So, I would guess that it weighed about 500 + lbs., but I would think the weight should not have been anywhere close to the pulling capabilities of the winch. Perhaps I need an engineer to tell me how much drag can exist while pulling on and object that is anchored to the ground. Then again, I've had an occasion to see two jeeps winch a 4dr jeep from the muddy river banks of the Mojave River with no problem. And this stuck jeep was up to it's axles in mud. Had to be a lot of drag there.

What tuners out on the market allow you to kick up the rpm's while winching?

Ah ha, I may have found the problem: Over the weekend I found that the battery cable on the positive battery post was loose. I made a couple of Homedepot runs and had experienced slow cranking when I hit the key. When I got home...click, click, click. No cranking. I traced the problem to the loose battery cable. Tightened it up and everything is good-to-go. Now I'm wondering if this had an effect on the winching or engine shut-down issue. Perhaps I should pull down someone's brick column to test my theory. Any volunteers?

That could have definitely been the problem for sure.

You don't need another concrete column....just find a big ol' oak tree and see of you can pull it over.....lol
