First "Off-Road" Experience
Well, I've only ever been out off-roading one other time other than today and didnt do much.
Today I REALLY had the itch to go out and climb something, and there is a pretty cool hill near the college here so i decided to go check it out.
I had hiked the hill a few times before and didnt look too bad. (That was a year ago)
So today I went up and decided to go up the backside of it which is rocks and slick-rock type stuff.. bad idea, half way up i find out that the rain has put huge rutts in the road, about a foot or more deep but I'm already half way up and dont want to turn around.. so I kept on and I made it.
Got to the top and decided to just stand around looking at the view.. after about 10 min i decided time to get down from here.. And I was going to take the easy way down, its steep but no technical stuff.. well, at least there wasnt the last time i checked..
I get almost to the bottom and I find out right near the bottom the rain has washed away most of the bottom part of the hill, so its around a 3-4 foot drop straight down instead of a ramp.. I was not about to back up the hill and find another way down. Ended up making it down just fine and the drop wasnt even that bad..
All in all it was fun but scary for a 1st time.

My biggest worry is rolling over forward, backwards or sideways. After seeing videos of jeeps rolling over it makes me paranoid.
Ass over hood Id downshift if there is time and give it gas or since he was probably in 4lo and 1st just gas with straightened wheels.
Its a trip going from a half ton to a jeep and getting used to the difference in the overall techniques.
The OP is probably in a better spot having not been offroading before. He needs to find someone nearby with a jk to wheel with
Yep, hit the gas. Most new people will hit the brakes and make it worse. Hitting the gas will cause the rear end to move down and gain traction (squat). Do the opposite when climbing, throw it in reverse and hit the gas.
