Default getting unstuck questions

I was looking in a recovery bag and I get the tow straps but what are snatch blocks used for and is it better to pull someone out in reverse? where can I learn more about this without having the benefit of trail experience. What do you really need to carry? Thanks

Dont use reverse to pull someone out as you can damage your gears. Always drive forward.
As for the Snatch blocks. those are used to double the pulling power of a winch
Check out this link for Snatch block and winching techniques

Edit: Its also better to use a recovery strap rather than a tow strap. recovery straps have elasticity to them whereas tow straps do not

I would also add a Hi-lift jack to your list. It can lift your Jeep up if you are hung up and over a rock or whatever, repair a flat or use as a winch. Relatively cheep investment. Then next I would invest in a decent winch, tree saver, snatch block (already mentioned), and good quality shackles like Crosby's. All the major winch companies have a recovery kit already to go with this stuff to go along with your winch.
