help with gears and things
i have a 2007 wrangler x and i dont know what my stock gears are in it. im ruynning mic tom 33x12.50 mtzs with a 4 in lift and idk the first thing about gearing i hear a lot about dana 44s? i think they are stock in rubis right? idk prolly a supid question for yall but i was wonderin if any one had any suggestions on what gears to grab and what not thanks
well you probably do 4.88 on the dana 30 with the 44 in the back because to large of size easily breakable, or you can go a diff route try and find a rub dana 44 front axle and you will have the 4.10 gearing and the front locker and then u can swtich the rear to a 4.10 and you will be fine on a 2 door. just my opinion
You'll get better and more accurate advice the more info YOU give. Such as, what are your intentions with your rig? Are 33s as tall as you are going to go? Do you have a manual or automatic? All of these will factor in heavily in your decision.
First thing to do is figure out what you have. For all of these, try to get your "build sheet'. Mine was in the glove box when I bought it. It lists everything in the vehicle. Some of this was on the window sticker too.
If you don't have a build sheet, there's a site at Jeep where you can send in your VIN and they'll send you back the build sheet. Also, there's another site with pictures of the diff covers you can use to match your diffs. For gears, there's a table you can look up and manually rotate the tires on a jack stand. Count rotations (or something, never done it) and it will tell you your gear ratio.
Don't have time to look up the sites, but these pointers should get you started. Use Google from there.

Well if you have an X with a 6 speed manual, you have a dana 30 in the front and a 44 in the rear and you prolly have 3.21s that is a stock setup for the X. If you go any larger than a 3.54 gear in the front you will have to change the carrier. if you are not planning on anything larger than 33" tires then go with the 4.88s. But if you ever plan on anything bigger definatly go with the 5.13s minimum. This is an expensive upgrade and you only want to do it once! better to be overgeared than to be undergeared. the gears are the same price so why take the chance.
you might as well do the C gussets and skids while you are at it.
BTW: You will have the 4.10s if your rig came with the tow package.
BTW: 5.13s 5.38s are no easier to break than any other gear. Its the tooth that breaks 99% of the time not the ring. there are the same amount of teeth in play ( 3 total, 1 lead, 1 in full set, and 1 follow) on all gears no matter what size the gear set.
