Default How to go into low range??

am i right in thinking that in the wrangler you need to be rolling slowly in neutral to put the vehicle into low range, i know this is what the manual says but i find it strange as all my past 4x4 you could put into low range when stationary. ???????

I do the same thing, usually between 3-5 is my sweet spot. If i try it stationary i just hear it grind and it wont shift over

Edit: Auto too btw

i go to 4 high while moving. when heading to low i stop, kick the trans to N and shift it to 4 low, i then keep some pressure on transfer case shifter and hit trans into drive. if it wasn't already engaged it pops right in with out grinding. it never went smooth while rolling for me, no matter what the speed. i have the auto

Grinds at a stop, will go in easy with a slight forward roll.

My understanding of this (and I could be wrong) is that the transfer case lacks a syncro for 4-lo, and that you have to be rolling to get the gears to line up.

Could just be BS, but I seem to remember that from somewhere

Default No issues

Manual 2010...

I stop completely, ensure I'm in neutral and shift to four low...no grinding, no problems...

Not sure what the issue is....

Not BS. There is no synchro for hi-lo, lo-hi shifting.
If the splines are not lined up when stopped, it just will not go.

A slight roll, with moderate pressure on the lever, will allow things to line up.

I have a manual and I met this guy in Ouray and asked him how he gets his jeep into 4lo. ( I was a noob at the time and my first trip off-roading). He told me , you " just slam on the breaks while moving and then slam it into 4lo" beleive it or not that sh&&& works

another thing you can do is turn off the jeep, slam it into 4lo and turn the key, it will inch forward and then give it a gas. ( with my rubicon with manual it won't stall if I don't give it gas)
