Default Info on 4wd

Looking to get an unlimited. This will be my first jeep. I live where it snows in winter and on and off in spring. Got my wife a 4runner because the 4wd acts like all wheel drive unless the differentials are locked. So she keeps it in 4hi all winter. Even on dry pavement. I was wondering if there is any info on how the 4wd system works on 2013/14 jeeps? Do they work the same way or more like traditional 4wd- only put in 4hi when needed?

The JK is 4wd, not AWD, so you probably shouldn't leave it in 4HI all winter unless the roads are always ice and snow covered. The following video is by Jeep and explains the 4 wheel drive system

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxHQeO-Y7GU There's another one just for the Rubicon system if you are interested.

You certainly live in the right place for one! So close to good wheeling!

Uh.. Op... What year is that 4runner? I'm 99% sure 4Runner's have only a part time 4x4 system, Meaning running it in 4hi on dry pavement is destroying the drive line.

The Limited 4Runner is full time 4wd. All other models are part time like the JK.
