You mean when your just starting to drive on the sand or after you've been driving in sand?

lower your air pressure and use low gear.

Default wheel hop

Sounds like you were in 4hi, If you are staying in 4 hi, push the ESP off button, sounds like your traction control is kicking in you need to turn traction control off. I have experienced the same feeling in certain snow conditions also.

As others have said; in the sand you should air down to at least 18 psi, be in 4Hi and turn off ESP. Remember in a Jk ESP will re-engage everytime you turn the motor off. I almost found out that little detail the hard way.

The loss of power and shaking feeling is due to the ESP engaging in an attempt to limit wheel spin and regain tracking. That is a good thing if you are on a wet road but a bad thing if you are on sand. In soft sand in particular, some wheel spin is inevitable but also necessary to maintain momentum when wheeling in the sand.

have you held the ESP button for 5 seconds to turn it off completely? only reason for shaking can be the following:

tires at full pressure

going over ripples in the sand,

ESP not fully disengaged and pulling back the power
