You will get all kinds of opinons on when not to use or when to use it, I only turn it off in low speed situations. In 4lo it will automatically turn off of course, and yes when it is off you will get the car swerve symbol. However when it is on and I get the Jeep a little squirrely the symbol blinks on and off and you will feel kind of like a jerking feeling.

Whenever you engage 4Lo on your Jeep the computer will automatically disengage the ESP and will subsequently re-engage it when you shift out of 4Lo.

As for the cust, being to sure to was your jeep or bring it through a car wash that does the under carriage semi-frequently will certainly help to remove the road salt build up on your vehicle.

the jerking when you turn could also be your drivetrain binding up and unloading on you. very common in sharp turns when in 4wd.

also turn it off when in the sand, cuz if you bog down, it will kick in and you will sink deeper,
