Default offroading an auto rubi.

My last jeep was a 2001 sport auto. We had serious issues with stopping while in 4lo going down steep inclines out in az. We actually would 2foot the brake and still have to throw it into neutral to slow the speed. Are the new rubi autos any trouble like this? Can you one foot stop an auto rubi going down something like Lionsback?

stopping is not a problem and my rubi has 5.13 gears. it must be the superior breaks

Maybe keep it in 4Lo and in 1st to let the engine due the braking.

mine either...4:1 crawl ration helps though for the rubi..as noted previously...1st gear helps, so do the 5.13's if ya can.

I normally stay in 1st or 2nd in 4Lo while going down hill. the 4:1 does its job very well.

During the steep hill leave it in 1st and 4lo you will barely need to apply any braking to the pedal.

X2 Works for me! Just go slow, don't let it pick up speed.

it must have been the taller gearing and cheap brakes on my sport that caused it. All other jeeps I owned were stick so this was a surprise to us when we couldn't stop smoothly. When we'd throw it into neutral it would almost do a front bumper stand it would stop so fast. Very big pucker factor when looking down a couple hundred foot drop.
I may just get an auto since they get the same mileage and the stick is having clutch issues. I don't understand how a four speed gets the same mpg as a six speed.

Real milage and sticker mileage aren't always the same. A good driver with the stick should get slightly better MPG, but then again none of us bought a Jeep for its exceptional mileage!

I'll second what everyone else said. I wheel in 4 low and 1st and have had no problem braking. The rubicon with a 4:1 transfer case should be even better at this.
