Recovery in Reverse

In days gone by like my old FJ40, reverse was without doubt the lowest gear the truck had. Snatch straps like you get today were only just making their way to market.
The best way to get a stuck truck out was in reverse and very slowly (Oh! axles were the same size with warn hubs as standard; not uni joints).
Now the JK has a lower 4LO 1st gear than any reverse gear, and much weaker front uni's and a smaller front axle (even the rubi axle is not the same front to rear).
With the aid of your snatch strap and a rear tow hitch (or similar) why would you want to use reverse?
