Dear Smittybilt

Please take my money!

Anyone find any info on release date or pre-orders?
Summer of 2016 is all I get.

JRJKUS 02-10-2016 03:44 PM

Looks good! Is there a price on that ? Looked blurry

From what I have seen, $4900 with tent. I find that a little hard to believe since their tent is pricey. There is a SEMA video on YouTube about it. Looks promising for sure 31" procomp tires and wheels included.

JRJKUS 02-11-2016 05:11 PM

That would be a good deal with tent. Will be on my wish list.

That is very cool. It would be better if it was color match to your jeep..

Cutman 02-14-2016 07:03 PM

Holy $#!+, that's exactly what I've been dreaming of.....without having to weld anything myself. Day-ummm!

YJ-JK 02-15-2016 05:21 AM

I have been researching these and nice to see there is another option. For anyone looking at these, I found this on Wrangler Forum: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f274/my...er-245391.html

I'm not getting any feed back from Smittybilt on this.
Is there a rep on here we can ask?
I have sent an email and asked on Instagram, with a reply that someone would check on it, but nothing yet. I have been building one, but I'm at the point where I am about to spend serious money on tires and a custom box. I would rather sell this project and give the Recon a try.

catahoula 02-15-2016 05:45 PM

Very cool trailer...if only I had the money.

ConroeJK 02-19-2016 01:10 PM

Received email response from Smittybilt today. All they could advise was an mid to late summer ETA for the trailer. On the bright side, too hot to tent camp here in the Summer, so cooler fall temps will a good thing.
Plenty time to save up some money.

mo0s3 06-10-2016 07:14 PM

Nope it's a complete rebuild from a military M416 trailer. The only thing I kept was the frame and I rebuilt everything/ fabbed. Lot of fun and it's way stronger then the original :)

JRJKUS 06-11-2016 06:32 PM

Looks good! Your lucky to find a 416. Nice job... I must have thought ConroeJK was your frame

The funny thing is My parents gave it to me for Christmas! They got it for $200 from their neighbor. This is what it looked like originally

mo0s3 06-12-2016 08:28 AM

Yeah the HOA blows. But we do have a lot of jeeps here since people know I can weld lol

Chuck-The-Ripper 06-12-2016 09:00 AM

Lmfao. Bet I'd ever let someone control what the **** I do on my property. The **** is this North Korea? That's exactly why those neighborhoods are a joke.

mo0s3 06-12-2016 11:36 AM

Couldn't have said it better Chuck !!!

Build it yourself. We have built 3 of these so far out of the garage from scratch. Each has 5x5 wheels, onboard water, power, and electric actuators to lift and level tent platform. Average cost $1500 without tent.

That's pretty sweet for $1500. What did you use as plans?

I agree. Very nice setups. I have a goal on learning to weld in the very near future. This may be one of my first projects.

Very cool, the electric actuators to level and raise the tent is cool touch.

I wish we could say we had plans. LOL We just knew the basic interior dimensions and height we wanted. Threw some steel down and started welding and built up from there. Once we had a platform we figured out what width axle and then ordered it online. We knew that we wanted the tent in the lowered position to be below the roof of the jeep and the trailer to be no wider than the jeep to help on tight trails.

Yes, we tried a scissor jack at first which didn't work very well and then the actuators which worked better but they wouldn't rise together exactly the same and would bind a little. The trick was to use heim joints at the top of the lift poles as seen in the pictures. This keeps any binding from happening and lets you angle the tent in any direction quite a bit. So no longer concerned with leveling the trailer, we just park raise the tent and level the tent platform itself.

What trailer are you starting the build off with? I can't seem to find any trailers for the build that cheap.

Didn't... We built from scratch. Started with a rough estimate for how many feet of raw steel we needed and went from there.

Here are just a few shots from one of our builds

Here is one I traded a riding mower, he wanted $300 for it.

Peddy10181 10-31-2016 02:47 PM

I hit them up on Facebook today. They said end of the year. I really want a tent trailer :)

Guess they are a little behind, I think they are going to have a real winner if they can keep the cost down.

I called them yesterday. They are in production and are due out in 30-90 days. They will offer them as a basic trailer and then charge for all the add-ons. The tent, refrigerator and generator are not included.

Can't wait to see the options and price points. Although, I have since bought a new rubicon and the cost of starting a new build is going to eat all my extra cash for a while.

ShutterBug 11-01-2016 04:37 PM

They are showing it at SEMA. $5999 - comes as a kit with 31" Pro Comp tires. I'm intrigued.

He said with the tent, generator and refrigerator it would be around $7,500.

Smitybilt recon trailer

I just left 4 wheel parts inquiring about the trailer. The sales associate called smittybilt. They claim the trailer will be released in February 2017. The original price target was $5000. The new price is $6000 and that does NOT include the tent, which 4 wheel parts did NOT have a price for. I have been shopping for an expedition trailer for about a year and don't want to spend fifteen thousand dollars for a trailer. This seems to be the best deal yet if they get off their @#% and release it. I mean how much r&d does it take?

$6k is a bit much. I have a project version going and have about $1500 in it, including the donor m416 I started with. I hope they can bring that price down.Attachment 665869
