I've had the Recon (10,500LB, 12VDC 6.5HP MOTOR, 3-Stage Planetary Gear PRO PERFORMANCE SERIES WINCH in Black) for almost 3 years now, and it has been rock solid. I also have the XRC front bumper, and it fits perfectly! I don't recall needing a plate for it, I think the bolt pattern matched so it wasn't necessary. It was on sale at Amazon for $440 when I purchased it, so keep an eye out for a sale

The goofy shape allows for a foot-forward mount (the direction you are pulling) a rugged spur gear design with the gears bathed in oil, and external brake that won't allow heat to radiate through the drum if you have synthetic rope, the ability to hold 150ft of wire rope, and 73+ ft/min speed to keep up when you may be assisting the winch when driving.
There is a reason why the winch new is $1800 and no one builds a bumper for them. Unfortunately, the cost is the wrong one. You can find them on CL and they are not bad to rebuild. The 8000# rating is conservative.
