Tire Plugs...
I just bought a tire plug kit and put it in the Jeep. I know how they work but don't have any experience using one. Could anyone share any experiences as far as how well they work, what they have done, what not to do, etc? Thanks in advance.
I always carry tire plugs....matter of fact I have at least two plugs in one of my tires on my Jeep right now and another plug in my DD rear tire, It seems everywhere I go I get a nail or screw in my tires. They have worked very well for me in the past as long as they were installed securely and correctly. As far as what they have done, they have saved me from buying new tires just because I ran over a nail . I will usually leave a screw as long as it's holding air but nails come out as soon as I see them before they fly out . I am NOT saying you should rely on them but they work for me .
i always keep a plug kit in the jeep.they are really good to have for backup when you get a flat on the trail.ive put 4 or 5 plugs in a single hole, in the tire to get the jeep moving just so it will hold enough air to move the jeep or get you off the trail.
just make sure you have enough pressure in the tire before you pull the nail/screw or in my case 5/16" carriage bolt. if you dont have adequate pressure the tools will not easily go into the tire and can only make it worse. also make sure you use the rough tool enough to make a clean uniform hole that way you dont end up with a pin nail size leak

i've got one in my jeep too
I have pulled out a bunch of crap from my Terra grapplers...
-nails (needed plugged)
-screws
-small animal bone in the shoulder
-tacks
Yeah be sure to use that rasp to clean the puncture in the tire, it's easier to let the air out of the tire if you have a compressor around, so let the air out and rasp the puncture then thread that rubber piece through the big needle looking tool and cover the rubber in that glue stuff that comes in the kit, and put some more in the puncture. Push it all through into the tire and then Yank* it out as hard and fast as possible so that plug will break and conform to the hole in the tire. If needed, cut the excess, but don't cut it too close. Steel Belted Radials are Fun!

just about every thing ive ever owned had a tire plug in it at one time but offroad tires are kinda hard to get plugged cause of the thickness steel belts etc. ive heard some take a drill motor to get hole big enough
