Hey guys, I'm thinking to change from 33" to 35" or maybe 37" tires in the future, but since I live in the middle east and it's mostly sand I wonder what tire size would be better for sand dunes? I read somewhere in the web that bigger tires and lower pressure is best for driving in sand dunes, but isn't bigger tires gonna make me slower?

In many cases, a bigger (wider) tire means more area covered which is more grip and more delivered power. Too big of a tire without enough backed power is an issue. The power being delivered and tire size need to be at an equilibrium.

Tire height isnt going to do you a lot of good. The wider the better. I would definitly air down before driving on sand. If you have an auto trans make sure you get a trans cooler.

exactly that's what i know, wider better...i don't understand why the other website said "bigger tire" is it because with taller inflated tire you get a wider tire and more grip?

I guess i wont go too big so 35" is gonna be enough for looks and performance.

I run my 35's onthe Arizona desert floor with no problems. I rarely need to air down even in the sand.

I have seen experiments before that show that it is the length of the tread (not the width) makes the biggest difference.
i.e the more you air down, the longer the tyre footprint and the better the grip/flotation

I've been running toyo 37x14.50 mtr's and have spent a ton of time at the Dumont Sand Dunes & Little Sahara Sand Dunes, and have rarely put it in 4 wheel drive. I run 6-8 psi and they float amazingly well.
I also ran a set of 40x13.5 mtr's and felt like they needed a lot more motivation to stay on top. They were on a narrow 8 inch wheel which made a difference.
