Default Tools to take on the trail?

What is everyone's opinion on the size wrenches, sockets and torx drivers that should be included in any well equipped tool kit to take along on the trail? I don't want to take a bunch of sizes that i'll never use. I'd also be interested in hearing what other tools you've found are a must have for repairing the most common trail side issues.

Well I can tell you what's in my permanent JK toolbag. So far it's been serving me well but then again I haven't had to take apart my axle on the trail yet (hopefully never).
  • 1/4 inch drive socket wrench
  • A full set of sockets - metric ranging from 10 to 19 mm
  • Pliers
  • Blade (box cutter or switch blade)
  • Vice grip
  • Hammer
  • Crescent wrench
  • Regular metric wrenches - sized again from 10 to 19mm
  • Zip ties
  • Duct tape
  • Electrical tape
  • A small spool of 16 gauge wire
  • Torx bits
  • Screwdrivers

They should cover most contingencies. Hope this helps!

A good multi-tool, tow straps, jumper cables and a bottle opener

Hammer, vice grips, zip ties and duct tape. Covers all issues.

ChryslerChris - do you really use a 1/4" drive ratchet or is that a typo?

My only other thing to add... If you have any aftermarket parts that used different sized hardware, account for that in your tool kit.

1/4 inch is all Chris needs at the mall

Every Jeep already has a bottle opener. The door latch loop I'm told can be used as a bottle opener.

I went through this a few months ago as well. I have added a 13mm 12pt socket and 21mm socket and 35mm axle socket to the list to remove a front axle if need be!!
