Default Using 4 Low and lockers advice

Looking for some advice on this...

I know it says in the manual that when you're in 4 Low you're not supposed to have a vehicle speed over 10 mph or something like that... If that is the case, then what if I'm in 4 Low with the my lockers engaged and I need enough wheel speed/spin to get up a steep snowy hill? In essence my vehicle may be actually physically moving at less than 10 mph, but my wheels are spinning at a much faster rate just to get sufficient wheel speed to get up the hill. Is this rapid wheel spinning okay to do while in Low range mode, or is it hard on the 4wd system?

So same scenario if I'm driving though a mud hole and need enough wheel spin to get through it... It is okay to do this rapid wheel spinning in 4 Low range with the lockers engaged, or should I be in 4 Hi instead without the lockers on? Obviously I would never actually want to drive my Jeep fast in 4 Low simply because I know it's not supposed to be used like that and it would be unsafe (off road I prefer going slow or crawling), but sometimes you need the wheel speed or you will just sink into a hole. So is it acceptable to do this?

The answer as usual: it depends. Revving up in 4-lo isn't a big deal, just pay attention to the RPMs. If I can't get enough wheel speed in low, then I use 4 hi. If there is little traction then use both lockers---but I turn off the front as soon as practical to make steering easier.

Spinning your wheels with lockers on generally doesn't hurt anything. HOWEVER, you don't want to be spinning and have the tires bite hard on something. Spinning tires+good traction=breakage. That is a great way to break an axle or drive shaft.

For snow and sand air down to increase the size of your tire footprint--helps a lot.

I believe in my Jeep you're not supposed to go over 25mph in 4 Low. So if my speedometer is reading near 25 I just make sure I don't go over it, whether I'm moving at that speed or not. I go by whatever the speedometer says.

If I know I'm going to be in mud or snow and may need a higher rate of wheel spin to clean the tread out, I'll keep it in 4 Hi so I can safely keep a higher rate of wheel spin.

Of course, that's just how I currently do it. I'm the last guy you would want giving any advice because I don't know much about anything.

Maybe some others will come online and educate us both more and I'll see if I've been doing it right or not.

Another option is the Rubi Locker Mod. I did it on my Jeep and I absolutely stand by my choice. What this does is allows you to lock up while you're in 4hi. I still don't go crazy with it but I find it helps a lot in the sand. It's a cheap mod and fairly easy to do.

Top speed in 4-lo is really only limited by your engine rpm redline. Obviously because of the torque multiplier you want to be as gentle as you can or risk breaking stuff.

You have full control of your lockers even in 2hi. Search for the writeup
