Default What is the best all around set up?

I was just wondering what you all thought was the best set up. What do you feel is the best way to both crawl rock and play in some mud?....i am not serious enough on either to equipped my rig specifically for one side or the other...

You can easily do both in a stock Jeep.

2.5 BB lift w/ 33s would probably give you best of both worlds... gets you a little higher to hit rougher trails w/o sacrificing too much gas mileage for highway.

Get a Jeep and get mud tires. The rest is personal preference. These things are highly capable with the right tires being the most important aspect.

Joking aside, a min of 33s is usually a good start. If you have a 4dr, then a small lift (2"-3") and 35s will help a lot. The longer wheelbase has advantages and disadvantages (breakover angle being the prime one.)

Absolutely no regrets on getting 33's....made it in the same places with my 33's when others were riding on 35's. Yes 35's are nice BUT many things come into factor in the tire size decision that other owners including myself must think about when going with 33's vs 35's. It's not all about looks...but function and upgrade costs. These factors will play with upgrade costs, wear & tear, fuel mileage, power & torque.

Factory Gearing (3:21's vs 3:73 vs 4:10's) vs cost upgrading to 4:88 or 5:13's
6spd vs Auto
Front D30 vs Front D44
Transfer Case 2.73:1 vs 4:1
Tire Weight
Added accessories weight (winch, bumpers, skid plates).

Lift is nice if you are looking at bumpers and winch look at a coil lift like OME HD or TF. If you don't have them get a set of Quick Disco's or at least have tools to remove your front stock swaybar links. They are a nice for off-roading in rocks and any uneven terrain! as it helps keep your rig quite stable on uneven terrain.

idk if you have a 2 door.
but then you will also need to upgrade your driveshafts, and gearing probably to 5.13 to pull 37" tire
Firstly...3.5" of lift IS NOT MINIMUM to run 37's ....guys have run 37's with 2.5" of lift with FLAT or CHOPPED fenders.

Driveshafts: if you have a AUTO will need to upgrade your driveshaft IF you start getting into a +3" lift as the rubber boot will be an issue of tearing on the Tranny skidplate!

and with coil lift, you can always add on to it if you want more.
gives great on road ride. and good flex.
Of coarse not everyone regrets going 33's but there are quite a few. There are other threads on here, based specifically on tire sizes, to review for a better picture of what works for different people.

I've got the Terflex 2.5 Coil lift, 34" MTR/K's, good tough bumpers, and a Warn winch and I couldn't be happier with my setup. Its low enough to be stable (important in Moab) yet has enough clearance and breakover to get through most things. Plus, if you can't drive it...winch it.

So see, MY setup is the best setup.

What exactly does disconnecting your sway bar links do? How does this affect the Jeep on trails?
