7/8" x 30' bubba rope. Works great and comes with a mesh storage bag.

I've used my 17k ARB strap a few times. Never needed to do any real hard pulls but it seems nice.

I think too much strength can be a downside if you need to yank someone out. Most of the time it seems people only need a nudge to get going anyway.

It generally goes by weight rating. I always buy at least 18,000 lb straps or higher. Ive been out in the bush and had straps break leaving me f**ked. Pay the extra couple bucks and buy a quality 18 or 27 thousand lb strap. Cheers.

I'm also looking to buy some recovery straps. Are two needed to use at once, or will one work?

Also, do most people buy a set of 20' and a set of 30'? It seems like 30' would be too long in a lot of cases.

Last question... What do most people use to weigh down the strap in the middle?

Buy two, you never know when you'll need to anchor yourself to someone else while winching someone else out. Also- multiple straps give you options on length because you can combine them. After spending time doing rigging in the shipyard industry there are some tips......fold your strap in half- it doubles the capacity. If you choke it, you're looking at 3/4 strength as you're creating a pinch point. The straight pull is what the strap is rated at.

Now.....I get my straps from industrial rigging shops because they're tested to 200% here. The 16k strap will hold 32k before it yields.

A jacket or even more straps over the middle will work as a dampener should something go wrong. You always want to know where your weak link is.

Amazon has Smittybilt 2" x 20' straps with 20,000 lb capacity for about $20. Anyone have any experience with those? They seem like a good deal.
