Default Beach driiving

Have been on Portsmouth island (NC outerbanks) all week again. Thought you folks might get a kick out of how they mark the dune trails and beach access:

Awesome place!

Carolina Beach also lets you drive on the beach and camp as well.

Love that area.

Just moved to NC a few months ago. Looking forward to exploring the beaches. Any hints to places to go and things to bring would be appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

Lots! - Like said before, OBX (The Outer Banks) is great. OBX is at least a 2 day visit if you want to appreciate it. At the north end of OBX is Kitty Hawk. As in the Wright Brothers, first in flight. There is a museum there that is really great. Also, in Nags Head there's some great little motels right on the beach that are reasonable. You can sit on the back porch, enjoy a beverage and watch the dolphins play and such. Also OBX has several lighthouses that are pretty cool.

Then the Carolina Beach which has Freeman Park. You can drive out on it and camp. Carolina Beach and Kure Beach are on the same island. If you drive to the south end of the island, you can take a ferry to Southport. In Southport is a restaurant that used to be called The Ship's Chandler. I think it's new name is Cape Fear Restaurant and Lounge - great seafood!

Also, if you head west, there is Uwharrie OHV which is a pretty good place to wheel.

Welcome!

If you go up to carova beach. Go back beyond the dunes into the woods. Pretty soon you come out on the sound. I found a little road when we were there it was pretty cool. Also drive up to the Virginia border on that same beach

We spend a week (wish it was longer) in Corolla every August. I haven't had much luck surf fishing at that time of year but usually give it a try anyway. The family likes cruising the beach with the doors off and looking for horses. I'm hoping to get to Cape Lookout someday to camp on the beach.
