Black or Red?
that's the best description I so far got on those
Also consider that the hood thingy will go off this weekend as AEV will be fitted. The reason to this poll is a crazy idea of WRAP! Yes mat black special film full car wrapping is being though of now. I need your opinion to decide. The AEV hood comes in mat black, so I'm thinking to apply the film (in mat black) cross the rest of the car to 1st protect the paint from the harsh desert sand and sun and 2 to satisfy my love to black ... mat black

It's a shame, because I like the red one much better overall. And then I saw the hood thingy and it all went away.
Both are nice, though.
Ok, let me try to understand the American way of thinking since I'm not American, I'm a Swede living in the middle east, Why do you guys hate the Bestop hood appliqué?
Is it because it gives an image of a Hummer? then in this case the hate is related back to the historical Jeep / Hummer hate / love relation
Or is it because that thing serve no purpose and it's just made of lower quality plastic?
Or something else I missed totally?
Whatever the case is I'm removing it as said against a real AEV hood, I was planning to cut vents through it when I had the supercharger installed! I guess I will do more experiment with it once it’s off the Jeep

I consider the Jeep Wranger (Unlimited included) to be a vehicle built with a utilitarian purpose. I believe every part of the Jeep has a mechanical or electrical purpose, albeit often at the expense of aesthetic or aerodynamic design. I believe that improvements, modifications and alterations should be for the betterment of the vehicle for utilitarian use. Lifts, larger tires, skid plates, CB radios, etc all serve a purpose. The hood thingy serves no purpose. It's simply a gag to make it look like something it's not. It's the equivalent of placing a Mercedes emblem on the front of your Jeep just for fun. I don't like it.
Some may argue then why place red differential covers, or why be concered with different color choices or why have polished wheels? Notice that the color or design choices are simply attributes of the improvements or modifications for the betterment of the Jeep's purpose, not simply for aesthetic value. Just like I disagree with getting larger tires just for the "look". If you don't wheel, why get bigger tires?
To each his own. Everyone has the right to chrome out their Jeeps and run with 26" wheels on street rubber. These are simply the reasons I don't like the hood thingy. Just because people own a Jeep, doesn't mean they understand. The phrase, "It's a Jeep thing, you wouldn't understand" goes much deeper than mere Jeep ownership. It goes down deep into the pride of owning a piece of Jeep history. Part of that history is deeply rooted in the utilitarian use of the vehicle, not hood appliqués.
How would you then justify people adding these dashboard covers (chrome, or wooden or whatever..) aren't these fallen under same argument of purpose vs. none? Also funny enough that Bestop released this product and they are very proud of having it and it is selling well according to their sales people! Anyways I think I do agree with you on what you said.
P.S. it looks like the mat black film will win its budget soon
