Default Body-Colored Mirror Relocation Brackets

Not a big mod, admittedly, but it looks much nicer than the black plastic coating that comes as standard on the Rugged Ridge relocation brackets.
When they first arrived I was disappointed to find that the hole was way too small to properly (and safely) house the mirror. I was planning on sending them back, but decided to strip them and repaint them to match the body instead. I figured that it was highly likely RR would just send out another set that was also too small.

Here's how they looked before the mod:

So, after stripping the brackets of their plastic coating I set about sanding down the inside of the hole until the mirrors fit in snuggly. Then I base-coated the brackets and, once dry, added a few layers of Mopar Jeep Green paint that I ordered from my dealer. The last step was to clear-coat them.
Here are some pics:

I also painted the round metal door-filler plates too. Unfortunately I don't have any recent clear pics as my doors are in storage for the summer. This is the only one I have for now:

Anyway, hope you like.

Cool! I hadn't even thought about doing this but it makes perfect sense!

Question!!!

How the f**k did you get the coverplates on? My factory hardware doesn't fit and I just got back from Home Depot and the holes drilled in my plates don't accept any standard or metic size bolt?

Hey Deepsky,

Yeah, I forgot to mention I had the same problem you're having. I had to buy two new pairs of bolts for the door plates too. I'll need to double-check, but I think I also re-purposed the original door bolts to secure the factory mirrors in the relocation bracket itself. It took me ages to find a set of bolts that fit - I had to resort to taking the brackets to Home Depot and trying them one bolt at a time. And it took a good few squirts of WD40 to get the bolts into the plate holes too.
Overall I'm happy with the final result, but it took a bit of hassle getting there.

I'm almost certain it was a metric bolt that I used - a nickel-plated one. I'll take a look at the doors tomorrow and try and get some info for you.
