Default What exactly is that 3/16 nut called? And where do I find one?

Had this happen today when I took a shortcut home behind the local donut joint... Talk about a stupid place to have a "break down." I'm in the sand lot between my breakfast joint and the road to my house, and all of a sudden I can't shift outta 4H.

This thread saved me a lotta trouble. Was able to go right to the problem, set the cable on long enough to shift and worry about a "fix" later. (After my donut.)

Question: What exactly is that 3/16 nut called? And where do I find one?

Default Repaired mine today.

Used a 1/4 open pushnut, from home depot. Yes, 1/4. We'll see how it holds. Looks good thus far.

I bought 2 plastic "buttons" at one dealer for 36 cents each and went to another
dealer and bought 2 more for a dollar each, no need to buy the whole cable assembly.
In the past year and a half, I have seen 5 break, one yesterday out on the trail.

do you have part number? I looked at the 08 parts list and found # 68018106AA listed as clip retainer on the transfer case cable, I'm guessing thats it?

Cool Woop!

Thanks. I just suffered the same thing a couple hours ago and had no idea what to do.

The pics in this thread really helped me figure out what to do to at least get it back into 2hi so I can get it to the dealership on Monday. With my trusty sidekick (17 year old son) I was able to move the t-case to where it should be. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.

Wink Better get ready.

When you get it figured out, remember to document it so us non-wrenching losers can follow you. Either that, or be prepared to ride around the country performing the magic fix and expect to only be paid with beer.
