Dana 30 farkle
[QUOTE=Under Dawg;1718067]Cliff, I don't think you're going to have to worry about your D30 anytime soon. Are you on 35s as well? I know little about Crown, are they superior to the c-r-a-p factory ball joints? Anyway, you're right, a guy can stout up a Dana 30 for a reasonable amount of cash.
I would love to drop the $$ to buy a Dana 60 for the peace of mind, but my children keeping asking for food, my mortgage company wants their payments, and my wife is only so patient & understanding.
Crown is a JEEP after market parts supplier. The ball joints and ALL linkage was shot at 15000. It could be the 35" tires or poor OEM quality... I don't know. I have put off replacing them until I could do the entire job plus upgrade the housing. The repair shop gave me a $1300 estimate for the BJ & linkage. I paid that for the parts and will grunt it out.
I understand this is a patch job for the Dana 30, but it sees more pavement miles than rocks. If I hit the lottery I'll throw some serious cash

I degreased the front end and applied a heavy coat of POR-15 as a base, then taped off the BJs and RCVs before using a flat black puff can to make everything look nice. Damn Midwest winters. Anyway, new photos post-detailing on Page 1.
New life for my 'lil Dana 30.

I finally have a front end to be proud of. No, it's not a ProRock 44, but I'm plenty confident in its integrity ... EVO Magnum sleeves, RCV axles, Dynatrac Pro Steer Ball Joints, Rock Krawler tie rod, Teraflex steering stabilizer and OME 619s for the front (4DR heavy on a 2DR). I had previously beefed the end forgings with EVO gussets and added EVO lower control arm skids and a SOLID diff cover (those items came last summer when I regeared), so I should be good to go with my new 35s. Cheers!
