Default evap canister relocation

Today I tackled relocating my evap canister relocation. I took a few shots of the progress.

I used the Rock Hard kit which relocates the canister above the rear axle (there are several other kits I found which utilized this same location). I choose relocation rather than a skid because I'm also adding the MBRP offroad exhaust system next (hopefully next weekend). I picked up the relocation kit and exhaust from David with Northridge4x4.

Here is the stock location:

Here is the evap canister mounted to the new bracket ready to go back in:

And here it is installed in the new location:

A couple of notes on this kit:

1. Instructions were included - but could have had much more detail (at least for a novice like myself). Just by reading the instructions alone - several steps were not very clear. It wasn't until actually performing each step that I began to "figure out" what they were trying to instruct me to do.

2. There is some play between the new bracket mounting points and the plastic clips of the canister (see the second pic). After installed I could "push up" on the canister and feel movement (1/8" or so). I feel it should have been a much more snug fit. The canister cannot come out of the bracket because of a tab that is bent upward on one clip preventing it from sliding out, however I do worry that movement may cause excessive vibration on the unit.

3. The kit did come with the new red hoses - but no clamps were included. I choose to go ahead and put some hose clamps on at each end of the new hose. It did occur to me that the ends I was clamping to were plastic, so "cranking down" on the clamp very hard didn't seem wise. I got them snug but not super tight.

4. The kit also came with a bracket to move the emergency brake cables out of the way. I didn't end up using it - the cables were completely out of the way after I had the canister installed in the new location. I don't know if the installation of my lift caused me to not need the new bracket - but I didn't even have the original factory bracket mentioned in the instructions. At any rate, the cables were unchanged or affected by installing the unit so I don't anticipate any issues.

The install was very easy, it took about 45 mins total to complete. Other than the play mentioned above, the kit does seem very strong and well built. Hopefully I wont have any issues as a result of the extra movement. I guess we will see what happens.

After installing it I drove around a bit to make sure no codes came up, all good so far.
