I don't know if anyone said this yet, but a quick note about the Smittybilt SRC bumper.
The bumper is 3/16" steel like the rest of them. The part of it that is 1/4" steel is the winch plate, which comes already welded into the bumper. The smittybilt site says very generally 1/4" steel plate but it does not explain that the whole bumper isn't 1/4" steel.
I installed this bumper a few weeks ago on my truck. The fact that the mounting plate is welded on gives you extra stability with the winch and it saves you about $80, since you don't have to buy a mounting plate. The disadvantage is that you have to mount the winch straight to the bumper which is kind of tough as opposed to mounting it to the plate then to the bumper.

Well, actually...if you could help convince the wife that I need one of these, that would help even more!

There is a simple solution. Tear up the stock bumper on a rock and you will need to replace it.

Nope; not 1200 but 1399 plus 309 for a skidplate. And it is supposedly a bugger to install. A shop that carries them wants a full 8 hours for the install; at 75 an hour that is 600. That makes the bumper installed 2300. It's nice but I'm not going there by any stretch. There are too many others that are reasonbly priced.

I just ordered a new bumper that I like better than the ARB or AEV that is 799 and has one to two hour install (so I'm told). After I get it I'll post about it.

Ok, for those with the AEV front bumper, I'm ordering one today through the shop that's doing all the work on my JK, but they don't do paint, so I have to take the hood and the screens from the bumper elsewhere. They will however mount the bumper for me, so my question is: Once the bumper is mounted how difficult is it to get the screen out and back in for paint?
