Well then we have to decide whether we need the things the tone rings influence. Perhaps some would prefer the beef of the axle over the bells and whistles. The only thing I'd hate to give up is the ABS. I'm sure Currie or Dynatrac could put together a D60 with JK bracketry and 8 lug hubs. Or there is the junkyard and JK brackets are readily available.

Does anybody know if the Jeep will actually function, I mean will the computer let it drive without input from the tone rings?

Solid is not closed! It has changed hands and is changing locations at the moment but isn't closed. Matt Martin (the engineer) bought the company from John.

A full float will always be stronger than a semifloat in any application and you can also run any hub that Solid makes from 5x5.5 to an 8lug. All the axles that went out of Solid axle for a Jk have been semi float but I am planning on contacting Matt soon to see if he can come up with something for a full float application. I have a set of Solid 60's I want to put under my Jk and would prefer to build a FF for the rear and I will be using 5x5.5" hubs.

I was looking at it today and I can't see any reason it can be done except for the tone ring. Do 3/4 and 1 ton Dodge PU's have tone rings on them and if so how do they handle that. I don't have access to a Dodge PU to check out. Maybe if they have something it could be adapted.

What about just eliminating the tone ring and all that it influences. Will the Jeep still run without the feedback from the sensors?

I want to put Hutchinson Rock Monster bead locks on and they are available in 8 lug patterns for Dodge, Chev and Ford so that isn't an issue.

The J8 has a D60 under it. Does anyone know if it is an FF and if it is does it have tone rings? Just brainstroming! Since Chrysler sold out to the Feds and UAW and is getting in bed with Fiat I'll never buy a new Jeep again so I might as well make this one what I want as I'll have it for the next 20 years.

The J8's D60 is a semi float.

The dodge trucks use AAM rear axles. They do have a tone ring, and as I recall its part of the rotor assembly.

I'm not familiar with the AAM axle. What is it? Is it FF? If FF could that rotor assembly be adapted to a JK if the JK went 8 lug and FF?

Yes, it is a full floater. The 03+ rear axle have an 11.5" ring gear, and 1.56" 30 spline shafts. This was actually a downgrade from the D80 used in the 02 and older rams (1.6" 37 spline shafts).

I am not sure if the tone ring could be adapted or not. Somebody would need to figure out the pulse rate of the JK axle, and then see if its the same as the AAM axle.

Default Another option

In theory Currie could build a rear FF axle for a JK with ABS and ESP capabilities, if they wanted to, they can use the unit bearings used on their front axles, unless the tone rings in the front and the back axles are different.
I've seen FF axles from Currie using these unit bearings in rear axles, Shannon Campbell's buggy is set up this way.
I guess the best way to find out is calling them, and then posting here

That would be correct!!! It is something I'm working on and will be released later this year!!!! You could do it right now but you will loose your e-brake and must run rear Wilwood brakes. The setup I'm working on will have internal e-brake.
