Willys-Overland won the original contract after undercutting Bantam's price. Ford, was allowed to build Jeeps because of manufacturing capability. Ford built the GPW, the "W" being for Willys. BTW, they were all Jeeps. Ford was also given copie of Bantams original design because they, Like Willy-Overland did not meet the original deadline.
