This seems like a perfect spot to make my first post to the forums. This is my 2010 Wrangler hauling some kayaks.
I've made a lot of use of the roof over the years, as the 2 door model does have limited cargo space. That said, I much prefer everything about the 2 door JKs.
@RustyEdge We have the same space issues using a 2D for camping. We have a front hitch to carry bikes, but don't travel at night because they block the headlights. I added auxiliary turn signals. Looking at the lights to the sides of your windshield has me thinking that they could be a solution. Do you have a link to them? Do you they work well shining from that location?
