I've had no rattling shifter. The homemade knob didn't last long because I couldn't keep it from loosening without some sort of epoxy which I didn't want to do. So, the factory knob went back on. The aftermarket leather boot did solve the problem of popping out of 2nd gear on cold mornings. The factory rubber boot was just too stiff.

Ahh I bet you have a 3.8 lol For some reason most 3.6l with manual have a rattly shifter. But I have a feeling a heavier shifter knob will help decrease the noise.
