My new Rubi JKU!
Thanks! The race radio is a VHF radio that operates on 134-174mHz. Similar to a 2M HAM radio but covers more frequencies.
Main benefit over a CB is range and clarity. Whereas a CB may have difficulty getting from the lead vehicle to the tail vehicle in a 15-Jeep group, a VHF radio can easily transmit and receive 10-12 miles or more.
You "technically" need an FCC license to transmit on these frequencies, but many don't, especially weekend warriors just using them as comms for wheeling.

For me and the people I wheel with, i personally like having both. By far, more people use CB's, however, more and more off-roaders are finding our the benefits of using VHF.
As for cost, you can get into VHF radios starting around $120 for a hand held 2M HAM radio or you can do a mobile VHF race radio like what I have for around $400. All depends on your needs, wants, and of course, budget.
