I just got a set of 295/70R 17 Toyo Open County M/T put on my '07 Rubicon. I experienced minor rubbing at FULL turn with the stock rims. After installing 1.5" wheel spacers the tires no longer rub - no mods to my suspension. The tires are amazingly quiet and aggressive looking. I'm thankful I saw this thread before I made the investment - otherwise I wouldn't have been satisfied.

I currently have a stock JKU and I am looking at buying a set of Nitto Trail Grapplers 295/70/17. First off, does anyone have a tread lift estimate on these? I'd like to make sure I'm not getting into some tires that will only last 30k miles. Also, since I'm running stock wheels, I was wondering if these tires could be installed without spacers. I'd like to try them first wo, and then if there is rubbing I'd throw on a set of spacers. I know a lot of shops won't install tires onto a rig with spacers, so I want to make sure I can have them installed and then see if the spacers are needed.

Any input is appreciated.

You're going to either need the spacers, or you'll need to adjust your steering stops. (See the Write-ups section at Project-JK on how to do this.)

Would I be able to have the tires installed at a discount tire and then make it home and either adjust the steering stops or put on some spacers? Would they install that size of a tire or would they have issues?

When I had my tires installed (wasn't at a Discount Tire, so your results may vary) I just asked them beforehand if they would have any problems with spacers. They told me that as long as I knew they wouldn't warranty anything that related to the spacers, that it shouldn't be an issue.

If they won't install the tires on your Jeep, the other option is to see if they will install the tires on the wheels themselves and you just mount them on your Jeep yourself. :dontknow2:

Thanks to this thread and a few others I have finally decided to go with the AEV 2" lift and the Toyo 295/70R17 tires. I Did the 2.5" lift and 35's on my 2007 and wanted to go a little smaller since the Jeep is my DD.

Going back to a stock Jeep has been tough. LOVE the added power but I still have trouble getting out of it, I fall up.:D

Good looking Jeep Do you get any rubbing at full stuff or when disconnected? Did you need to trim the rubi rail?

Very Nice..the spacers seem to give that look of a wider stance.
