I am going to fab a front bumper this winter for my JK. Do I need to use 1/4" steel for the winch mount? I plan on mounting the winch on top of the bumper, so do I just make the whole top of the bumper out of 1/4" and the rest out of 3/16"? Any other considerations I should look at? I will mounting the factory fogs in the bumper as well as adding recovery points. Thanks!

 

no you can use 3/16th plate for everything, but add a brace in the middle of the bumper that travels from the bottom of the bumper to the top under the winch to help spread the load.
