Cool. I spoke with a guy a couple of years ago who likes to invent things for Jeeps about doing something very similar, but he wasn't interested. My thoughts were to deepen the little storage cubby with a heavy guage enclosure and keep the winch in there and out of the elements. The rest of my idea was almost exactly what you did.

This idea came to me after I almost slid over a cliff to the side. I needed a pull from front and back going straight up the mountain, but it wasn't possible. Fortunately a tree kept me from rolling down the ravine.

What you did looks fantastic!

Yep, that is going to be a big concern for the winters - they put sooo much salt down in this area during the winter. I have a winch cover which has been pretty good up until now keeping out the crud and salt. I plan to use the same cover with a small hole cut into the bottom to allow any water that gets into it to drain out (without letting too much in!). The wiring and Warn quick-release connector is another issue. It looks pretty reslient to the elements, but I'll put some additional element-proofing around it for the winter

That's a great idea. That certainly would give the winch some protection from rocks and the elements. It would be relatively easy to button up the winch line access opening for winter storage too. Then there are no corrosion worries.
