RIPP SuperCharger Gen2 Real World Results
I've had the Ripp set up for about 13-14K miles now. I've seen the good and the bad (bad installs good product). My wiring was royally uh... mucked up on the initial install and the vent for the SC was never installed (although the warning sticker was removed making impossible for me to detect a problem - ran it for 9K miles without a vent!!!!!). I have now taken over all installation of upgrades and repairs. I consider myself a "consumer expert" when it comes to this SC having been through the dumbest of the dumb local installers. I also have the Ripp headers and MBRP exhaust. I ran Ouray with a custom tune on GEN II electronics done on a St. Louis dyno in a race shop and I had Porsche mechanics correct the disasterous install from my local garage (unfortunately that mechanic moved to Florida to install SC's on Lambo's hence the race shop).
My daily driving mileage which is a 24 mile loop of steepish grades on mostly 60mph speed limited HWY is right at 14.5 mpg calculated at the pump from innumerable fill ups not from the goofy computer on the dash (it has never been close even for the first year when it was NA). Travelling to Ouray (1K mile trip one way) I saw 12.1 mpg both directions at mostly 70 mph HWY speeds. WHY??? Kansas headwinds!!! BOTH DIRECTIONS (fluky even for Kansas). The jeep shook and was pushed all over the place. ESP switched off on it's own after a few miles. Really aweful winds and my 4 inch lifted 35" tired JK still maintained HWY speeds up and down the mountains and gave me everything I asked it for. Intake temps were ridiculous reaching 200 degrees at times both on the highway and on the trails.
Just installed the intercooler and then made a 600 mile trip to Iowa. SWEET!?
? Mostly flat roads and 0 and I mean ZERO wind. Air temp outside ran 17 to 41 degrees F and engine ran smoother than I remember from the factory with PLENTY of power (several runs to 80 mph passing) and I used the cruise control the whole way. MPG= 15.5 over the 600 mile trip. Oh and I should add that with the new "BOV muffler" the cabin noise level was subjectively so much quieter I couldn't believe it.
The JK is where I want it now with a couple minimal changes coming in the next tune update which is good. I'm broke now!

Wow, when I started this tread I had no idea it would turn into this discussion. It's all good though. We're fortunate to be able to have a forum like this to discuss our thoughts and opinions.
I've run my RIPP now about 2000 miles. My gas mileage has increased over what I had before by a 2-3 MPG. I believe the increase is a result of not needing to open the throttle as much to get the same power. Holding 70MPG before took a lot more throttle input than it does now. My Jeep has also been tuned specifically for my vehicle. We optimized 14.7 AFR throughout the operating range. I only surge rich when we hit the cat over temp at full throttle, which will be fixed with a set of headers.
I think it is important to restate the fact that the RIPP tune by itself runs a bit rich. They need to keep it that way to cover the vast array of vehicles. If you want to get the absolute best performance and best fuel mileage you need to take it to a tuner that knows what they are doing. A 3 pull and your done guy is not going to do it. We had mine on the dyno for over 7 hours to dial it in.
Another key point that I've mentioned in other threads that I haven't seen in this one is that the Diablo does NOT currently have the ability to modify gear ratio. For those of us that have changed from stock, the Diablo or their $2K pro CMR application can not change it. The ECM calculations are based on stock. They claim that the computer "learns" the gears, but personally I think that is BS. My hypotheses is that the the reason many of the computers out there are reading the wrong gas mileage is because the computer bases its assumptions on the vehicle-specific variables in the ECM. If the fixed variables are not right, shift points, MPG computer, etc. will never be right. They call this garbage in, garbage out in the tech world...
Another thing I have noticed with the is Diablo is a tire size adjustment variance. I've found that it is .5" smaller than the SuperChips settings I was previously using. This is a slight enough difference that it is hard to notice on the speedo, but it is material enough to throw off the MPG computer and fuel economy calculations (even manual ones). We calibrated mine with the Dyno and I cross-checked it with two different GPS units. My MPG read-out is usually pretty close to what I get when I calculate manually as long as I reset it when I fill up.

Yes I have checked all of these things & frankly several don't need checked as the vehicle only has 37000 miles on it. I am not new to mechanical work & have raced or worked on vehicles for 25 yrs. I can assure you it is not the driver as I stated this is normal driving, I am not hotrodding this thing around as if I do the mileage is worse than I am already getting & that is bad enough. I do find it interesting these problems are blamed on the driver, tire size not calibrated etc when the mph is correct withen 1mph according to my GPS & when I went to set the tire size the Diablo was already set to 35" presumably by your tuner when the system was purchased since you requested tire size, gear, tranny etc at that time. I am not trying to knock your company yet after spending what is now $6600 for the Gen 1 kit & now the upgrade I have something that still doesn't deliver what you advertise nor is the kit 100% correct since my mpg readout is wrong. It stands to reason that you use Diablo tuners so part of this is on you regardless of subcontracting part of the electronics out. I for the most part have enjoyed talking to Ross & he obviously knows what he is doing, however the bottom line is if you were in my shoes & shelled out over 6 grand for what I have would you be happy??
Has the SC done absolutely nothing for you? You apparently drive without any "lead foot" whatsoever at any time, and just have the same gas mileage. As in, you do not use the power functions at all, and the gas mileage gains are non-existant. If that is the case, get that piece of shit off of your vehicle. I will gladly take it for $600. Seriously, I will buy that piece of shit and even pay shipping.
State your "demands" to Ripp, if I may state it so plainly. You are apparently clearly dissatisfied with this product, what do you want Ripp to do? Generally when I buy a shit product my main concern is to NEVER deal with that company again. Sure it is higher priced, so you may have a bone - but what should Ripp do? You want all your money back and keep the SC? Maybe you keep your SC and they give you $10,000?
Seriously dude. To be so dissatisfied with a product, but not want to get rid of it - what is the problem? What do you ACTUALLY want? I am certain that if you were to post it up on this forum for 75% of new cost you would only have to wait a couple days to be sold, a penny paid to avoid such hell as you relate it. So again, what is it that you ACTUALLY want from RIPP???

I just bought an '11 and want to put a Ripp system in. This thread has been invaluable, thank you for starting it. I, too, live in the Chicago area. When Ripp has the system ready for the '11's (about 2 months or so), would you be able to mentor me if I run into problems? I plan on doing it myself and feel confident but "just in case". I would feel better ordering it if I had a back up especially in regards to the tune.

This has been an interesting thread to follow. I've never heard of anyone buying a supercharger to improve fuel economy. If you were to ask anyone to say the first thing that comes to mind when you say SuperCharger, I doubt many would say "Fuel Economy." Of course, someone has, so I figured I'd do a quick internet search on the topic. I came across this post on Yahoo Answers (http://bit.ly/ebXo50). The question was, "Does putting a supercharger into my car make it more fuel efficient." Here's the answer that was rated the best:
"The only, and rare, circumstance where a supercharger would reduce fuel usage would be when the vehicle was constantly being used at its limits and straining to pull loads a lot. The added power of the supercharger would allow the engine to run better than the poor efficiency at the high end.
You will never save enough on gas to pay for the charger."
This answer sums up my experience. My engine was previously running under max load all of the time on the highway. The extra weight of the bumpers, tires, dual batteries, sub woofer, winch, etc. took it way outside of factory operating specs. The RIPP supercharger enabled my engine to be more efficient resulting in a somewhat improved MPG. Regardless, I didn't buy a supercharger to save at the pump. I bought it so I can keep up with the other cars on the highway. Even at exactly the same MPG, it was worth every penny. I will never be passed by a school bus going up a small incline on the highway again !!
Ok. I read the entire thread. What is it exactly that you would want Ripp to do? Buy you a new jeep? Give you a million dollars? Suck your dick?

The interesting thing to come from my bitch session is a good mix of real world results. With the exception of one person nobody saw an increase in mpg which is a claim that Ripp boldly makes. In fact most stayed the same or got worse. As a business owner myself I am held responsible for a product that doesn't deliver or for what is basically false advertising. While I didn't buy this just for mpg increase it did make it a much more appealing purchase.
If in fact this kit will increase the vehicle mileage why is the only person that saw an increase the Ripp tech??? He claims 16-17 highway 5.13's & 37' tires yet nobody else on here regardless of where they live etc can get these numbers?? Several of the folks on here have smaller tires etc & still don't come close to getting what Ripp claims. And yes I would be gladly sell this system but after the upgrade I have so much in it its hardly worth the hassle to take it all off, if I could get $4000 out of the $6600 ive invested I would be happy and the kit would be off tonight. With the piss poor mpg I get I doubt anybody would buy my jeep & or it would only add a small amount of value to the vehicle.
Had in fact the s/c delivered what Ripp claims then it would become a valuable modification. Everybody can rest at ease I'm done on the subject & if anybody is interested in this I am serious about selling it.

Can you please post a link or direct us to where all of these false claims are? A forum, website, etc. by RIPP that is guaranteeing a MPG increase for its customers or anything that is false advertising/misleading. Saying some customers have had gains is a legit statement. I am a customer and I have had a MPG increase.
You talk a lot about all of these MPG promises that RIPP makes, false advertising, etc. I've looked through the RIPP MOD site and have read every post I can find about them. I've only found a few instances where they say customers have said the get x-y more MPG or they have personally experienced it; however, I've never seen a statement from them that says "you will" or "they guarantee" anything. They increase horsepower and torque, which is undisputed.

NO i did not buy it for the increase in mpg YES that was an appealing factor & common sense tells me that an increase in the power of my little loaf of bread would decrease how hard the lawnmower engine has to work therefore increasing the mileage somewhat. Hell I would be thrilled as I've stated to have it stay the same as I was happy with that. I have been working on vehicles, drag racing cars etc for 25 years so I am mechanically minded & I did a very detailed & correct install.
If in fact the mileage is such a moot point why then does Ripps tech boast so often to me about how great his is?
I am glad your happy with your purchase & addition. Everybody seems to knock me for trying to increase my mpg & for wanting the product I purchased to deliver the claims that are advertised If since in an earlier post you talked about being the founder of a mulit billion dollar company you would care to buy this great product I have please pm me & I would be happy to sell it to you. Short of that I have no use in discussing this anymore & am sure everybody is tired of me doing so.
We all need to keep in mind that the Jeep mod market isn't that big. We need vendors to continue to invest in new products and to sponsor this forum. RIPP invested major $$ to bring these supercharges to market, which was clearly not an easy task. Ross put RIPP and his personal neck on the line for all of us. In this economy, that's saying a lot. I am grateful that they did. My Jeep runs better than I ever thought it would. It has been remarkable transformation. Best mod bar none.
