Many of our clients use their JK's to pull small to medium trailers - it pulls real smooth with the addition of a supercharger - the cleanest RPM would be 2200-3300 where you'll find 2-4psi at your disposal.

Some compelling points on the Pentastar. It would be nice to have the extra power in the stock engine. It may also make the difference of having to have more power versus it would be nice to have more power. Hard to say until we get to drive one.

I love my Jeep as it is. I've spent a ton of money and time carefully picking out and installing my mods. A catastrophic loss of some-sort is about all that would motivate me to get a new one and starting over. Changing to a Pentastar is not in my rigs future. If I were to change an engine I would go for real power and get a Hemi. It seems to me that a supercharger is a prefect solution if you are going to keep the Jeep you have for awhile and don't want to do a full engine swap. Pentastar is a good option if you are going to buy a new Jeep and can live with the power you have until 2012.

FYI: Keep in mind that the Pentastar hp/torque is measured from the flywheel not the rear wheels like the RIPP is. Still for me, I think I will wait anyways as I'm in no rush.

Anyone know the true rear wheel HP of the Pentastar? I'm interested in seeing a good comparison between a RIPP'ed 3.8L & stock Pentastar.

Anybody know the gas mileage you get with a Hemi in a Jeep? I pretty much have no intentions on buying a new jeep and the payments that go with it when I can spend less and swap a Hemi and still have a well mod-ed rig. But, if the gas mileage SUX with one, then, perhaps I'll go another route. I heard that the reason Jeeps don't come with better engines is that the emissions won't pass gov't req's.

Given the choice between the pentastar and a RIPPed 3.8 (assuming that smog laws didn't come into play) I would take the RIPPed 3.8 any day. The reason I say this is that peak horsepower at the rear wheels between the pentastar and a RIPPed 3.8 will probably be VERY similar. Take into account that according to RIPP the stock 3.8 (205 at the flywheel) makes between 130 and 150 HP at the rear wheels through the JK drivetrain. If you do the math, then that would result between 180 and 220 horsepower at the rear wheel assuming similar losses through the drivetrain and 290 horsepower at the flywheel. So the RIPP would have a slight edge in power at redline over the pentastar (especially if you have a 6-speed)

HOWEVER the reason I would still prefer the RIPP to the pentastar is that it would require all 6400 RPMs to get all that power out. I personally prefer lower RPMs, so even if I only get 220 horsepower at the rear wheel from the RIPP set-up, I would be able to get the same power as the pentastar with 1000 less RPM. But this is just personal preference...maybe other people like the sound of engines screaming away at 6000 RPM....

We've already got on on order - and what ever it is, it will have 100 more shortly thereafter - the better the base platform the better the mod'd out come...

We don't peak at 6000 the cam falls off at 4800 look at the sheets, we peak at mid 4000 and the torque (on our concervative tune) comes is at 200lbs at 2000 rpm...

That's what I was saying, the pentastar will require 6000+ RPM to develop peak power (with peak torque at ~4800 from what I can tell). The RIPP develops peak torque much lower (4000 like you said), hence my preference for a SC 3.8 comapred to the pentastar
